TXAKOLI DE ALÁVA

The Txakoli de Aláva wine region is located in the province of Aláva, which is part of the autonomous region of the Basque Country in northern Spain. This is one of the three sub-regions that make up the Txakoli Designation of Origin, along with Getariako Txakolina and Bizkaiko Txakolina. The Txakoli Denomination of Origin is known for producing light, fresh wines, mainly white, with distinctive characteristics.

Txakoli wines from the Aláva region are known for their vibrant acidity, freshness and fruity character. They are light wines and often slightly effervescent, which contributes to a refreshing experience.

Although the Txakoli Denomination of Origin has an ancient history, the Aláva region itself is a relatively young area in Txakoli production. However, producers such as Tantaka Wines are contributing to the region's growing reputation.

  • Geography & Climate

The region has a temperate oceanic climate, influenced by the Bay of Biscay. The vineyards are often planted on steep slopes, benefiting from exposure to the sun and protection from strong winds.
