GIOVANNI ROSSO

"Wine should be a perfect expression of its Terroir."

Welcome to Azienda Agricola Giovanni Rosso, a small family producer in the heart of the Barolo commune of Serralunga d'Alba, specializing in the production of exclusively red wines, deeply passionate about Barolo and its magnificent grape: Nebbiolo.

  • They are not simply a Barolo producer but a Serralunga producer. They have about a dozen different plots within the commune, in addition to the recently acquired vineyard in Valle del Mondo, located south of the commune's boundary in Roddino.

Curiosities

A side project was officially born in May 2016 with the purchase of the Etna property near the village of Solicchiata in Castiglione di Sicilia.

The estate is located a few kilometers before a small inactive crater that gives its name to the Contrada, a perfectly suited area for the production of red wines. The soil is entirely composed of lava sand, and the plants are cultivated using organic methods. The microclimate is unique in the world, and once again, the goal is to produce wines that can showcase the terroir with the utmost style and elegance.

  • Winemaking

In terms of viticulture, they cultivate as organically as possible, avoiding the use of artificial chemical treatments such as fertilizers, insecticides, or herbicides. The harvest is 100% manual, as well as pruning and soil cultivation beneath the vines. Green harvesting is carried out as needed, and they allow plant growth between the vine rows to encourage soil health and diversity in the vineyards.

  • HISTORY

Since the 1890s, the Rosso family has been cultivating vineyards in Serralunga d'Alba, specifically the Crus of Cerretta, La Serra, Broglio, Meriame, Sorano, Costa Bella, Lirano & Damiano. In the early 1980s, Giovanni Rosso restructured the vineyards with the aim of growing the best fruits.
Giovanni's son, Davide, studied Enology and gained invaluable experience in France. In 2001, at the age of 27, Davide took charge of the winemaking and aging of the wines with a clear objective in mind: "Wine should be a perfect expression of its terroir" - in this case, the slopes of Serralunga d'Alba, which are home to some of the finest soils in the world.
